Great ideas are powerful. They can inspire you to start a business, find your purpose or change your life.

A great idea can even change the world. Airplanes. Penicillin. The Internet. Everything “Apple”…

They all began with a great idea. But there’s more to it than that. A great idea can motivate. It can help you envision incredible possibilities and it can certainly fire you up.

A great idea can do a lot of things but here’s what it cannot do… It cannot create success in the real world.

Real world success comes from real world action. Physical action. Whether that’s writing a book, sharing your message on social media, building your dream house or ticking “run a marathon” off your bucket list…

These are nothing more than fantasies as long as they’re just ideas. Action is what you need to move those ideas from your mind and into the real world.

Here are 4 ways you can use to build your “take action” muscles so your great ideas turn into a reality.

Take Action Method #1: Don’t Wait

Practice doing things right away. Don’t wait. Don’t tell yourself, “I’ll think about this.” Don’t say, “I’ll start on this project next week.” You need to do it as soon as possible.

When you close the gap between the moment when an idea arises and when you start to take action, you’ll enjoy an amazing advantage …You’ll gain momentum.

When momentum kicks in, it’s going to help to take even more action. And that’s how you get the results you’re looking for.

Take Action Method #2: Know That It’s Short-Lived

We all have fears and doubts. Will my great idea crash and burn? Will people hate it? Will I fail?

These fears and doubts are normal and they’re natural. The problem starts when we allow them to get in the way. The truth is, fear and doubt are not permanent. You can start to dissolve them the minute you start taking action.

If you’re afraid of speaking in front of an audience (it’s one of the biggest and most common fears in the world), you’ll find that your fear dissolves the minute you begin your speech, seminar or presentation.

If you’re afraid of swimming, learning how to swim will help you to overcome that fear. Sooner or later action will cure your fear and your doubt. There’s no doubt about that.

Take Action Method #3: Do It Anyway

This is especially true for those who are in the creative industry…. If you’re going to wait for inspiration to strike, you’re going to be waiting a long time.

Your idea for that book or piece of art may never see the light of day if you wait until you “feel” like writing or painting. Inspiration arrives after action not before.

Action needs to happen first. You’ll be shocked at how easily your ideas move into reality when you follow the “action first” guideline.

Take Action Method #4: Be Present

Lots of people don’t take action because it feels like a long way between where they are and where they want to be. When you have a great idea, it feels like an impossible amount of work and time needs to go into it before you can see that idea become a reality.

The secret to overcoming this kind of overwhelm is to focus on the present. What can you do today, within the hour or right this minute that will move you closer to the outcome that you’re looking for?

Focus on the present moment and you’ll find that it’s not that hard to reach for your goals.

Action breeds results and that’s what we’re all looking for.

Imagine if people like Richard Branson or Elon Musk didn’t take the actions that they did?

Never forget that your ideas are just as valuable as anyone else’s. So do yourself (and the world) a favor and take action on them.
